| Currently,
a Professor of Art at Siena Heights University, in Adrian, Michigan,
John D. Wittersheim is Head of the Metalsmithing and Sculpture programs
and occasionally teaches ceramics. John has taught at Siena for twenty
years and holds a B.F.A. in art from Eastern Michigan University and
an M.F.A. from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
As a professional
artist, John has exhibited his metal sculptures both nationally
and internationally. Many of his metalworks have been commissioned
for liturgical or church related projects, the most recent in Lewisville,
Texas and Dayton, Ohio.
Originally from
Dearborn, Michigan, John worked at Greenfield Village and the Henry
Ford Museum for ten years, as a tinsmith, silversmith and in Transportation
Services, before moving to Adrian, Michigan in 1979. Other interests
include, antique car and motorcycle restoration, string instrument
design and restoration and the one-room schoolhouse history of Lenawee
County.
